Thailand National Park Chiang Mai : Ob Khan National Park

Ob Khan National Park Ob Khan National Park covers the areas of Pha Samoeng National Conserved Forest including areas of Tambol Samoeng Tai, Tambol Mae Sarb, Tambol Borkaew of Samoeng District; Pa Mae Khan-Mae Wang National Conserved Forest including Tambol Mae Win, Tambol Ban Kard, Mae Wang Sub-district, Sanpatong District, Tambol San Klang of Sanpatong District; and Pha Chang-Mae Khanin National Conserved Forest including Tambol Namprae, Tambol Banpong of Hang Dong District, Chiang Mai Province, within an approximate area of 574 square kilometers or 341,875 rai. The geographical features of the National Park mostly consist of high mountains. And “Yod Khun Tien” is the highest mountaintop of the National Park, at the altitude of 1,550 meters. The National Park has beautiful natural tourist attractions and varieties of major plants and wild animals.

Geography

Ob Khan National Park The geographical features of the National Park consist of high and low mountains, extending from mountains in the area of Mae Chaem District, Chaing Mai Province. The majority of mountains in the National Park are not much high. And “Yod Khun Tien” is the highest mountaintop of the National Park, at the altitude of 1,550 meters, followed by “Doi Khun Huay Prachao” at the altitude of 1,443 meters, and “Doi Khun Win” at the altitude of 1,424 meters above the medium sea level, etc. The National Park is the source of major rivers and gullies flowing into Ping River including Nan River, Lan River, Tien River, Win Gully, Mae Toa Gully, Mae Kamin Gully, Lah Luang Gully, etc. Most areas of the National Park are mountains at the average altitude of 800 meters above the medium sea level. There are small plains along rivers and gullies, including hillside plains where villages are situated.

Thailand National Park Chiang Mai : Mae Tho National Park

 Mae Tho National Park Doi Mae Tho Viewpoint Doi Mae Tho National Park has been a well-known sightseeing spot since His Majesty the King has visited the National Park in 1980. Unfortunately, the former responsible unit (Water Source Development Unit 6) has recently lacked the budget and staff for maintenance of accommodations and the surroundings, therefore, flowers and plants are not as beautiful as they used to be. At present, the National Park is improving the sightseeing spot to regain its reputation and attractiveness.
Regarding the travelling route to the sightseeing spot, you may take Highway No.108 (Hot-Mae Sariang) until reaching Baan Kong-loi (km 54), then, make a right hand turn to Highway No.1270 and go straight on for 16 kilometers until reaching Ban Lao-li. Then, make a right hand turn to the National Park’s office, which is located approximately 500 meters away from the branch road. From the sightseeing spot, you will be impressed with the sea of fogs reaching the mountaintop of Doi Inthanon.

Mae Tho National ParkMae-aep Waterfall
Mae-aep Waterfall is approximately 10-12 meters wide. The Waterfall is beautiful and attracts many tourists to visit in the dry season. The Waterfall is located approximately 6 km away from the National Park’s office. You may take the same route to the sightseeing spot until reaching Ban Mae-aep and take a branch road from Baan Mae-aeb for approximately 3 km until reaching the parking spot, then, travel on foot for approximately 1 km to the Waterfall.

Mae-lit Waterfall
Mae-lit Waterfall is approximately 8-10 meters wide and 12-15 meters high. The Waterfall is very beautiful and attracts many Thai and foreign tourists to visit in the dry season. Local people can make supplementary incomes from providing accommodations and services to the tourists. Regarding the travelling route to the Waterfall, you may take Highway No.108 (Hot-Mae Sariang) until reaching km 63, then, make a left hand turn to Ban Thung Lung and go straight on for approximately 12 km and travel on foot for approximately 500 meters to the Waterfall.

Mae Tho National Park Rafting on the Mae Chaem River
To get to the starting point for rafting on the Mae Chaem River, you may take Highway No.108 (Mae Chaem – Ban Na-bangdin) and go straight on for approximately 6 km until reaching the Salak Hin Ranger Station. And you may go ashore when the raft reaches Ban Kong-pae, Tambon Tha-pha of Mae Chaem District, Chiang Mai Province.

Travelling activities along the route of Ban Mae-ping Noi, Sop Mae-tum, and Sop Huai Kong-pae.
You may begin with travelling by a four-wheel-drive vehicle along the route of Ban Mae-ping Noi–Ban Om-raet, visit the Huai Mae-chuea Waterfall on the way to Ban Om-rat, and stay overnight on the side of Mae-tum River (the vehicle may be parked at the National Park’s headquarters). Then, you may visit Tham Luang Mae-tum, a cave which has beautiful pillar-shaped stalagmites and stalactites and being inhabited by a large number of bats. After that, you may travel by boat along Mae-tum River to visit natural cactus-shaped timber forests and mixed forests on both sides of Mae-tum River and you can see islets and reefs in Mae-tum River until reaching Sop Huai Mae-tum, where Mae-tum River meets Mae Chaem River, and finish with travelling by boat along Mae Chaem River to visit virgin mixed forests, since the vehicle route has not yet been opened for tourists. Interested tourists who need guides may directly contact officials of the National Park and prepare their own supplies.

Travelling activities along the route of Ban Mae-khan, Sop Mae-tum, and Sop Huai Kong-pae.
The route, which is suitable for rafting on the Mae Chaem River, starts from Mae-khan Checkpoint, Salak-hin Ranger Station passing Kaeng Sop-khan, Kaeng Kho-ma, Kaeng Tha-ruea, Kaeng Khot, Kaeng Luang, Kaeng Op, Hat Chiang-da, Wang Khwai-phueak, Ban Sop-long (where you can see beautiful cliffs and forests on both sides of Mae-jam River), Sob Mae-tum and finishes with rafting. The route is approximately 25 kilometers long and taking approximately 11-12 hours.

    Services and activities
    Interested tourists may contact Mae Chaem Plantation, Op Luang National Park, or service providers to rent inflatable rafts, provided that rafting along the route requires prior permission from the National Park.

Thailand National Park Chiang Mai : Mae Wong National Park

Mae Wong National ParkMae Wong National Park is on the Thanon Thong Chai Mountain Range. The area consists of winding mountains and is the source of several waterways, including the Mae Wong River and some parts of Khlung Canal. The waterways flow into the Ping River and the Chao Phraya River.
Mae Wong National Park is in Amphoe Pang Sila Thong in Kamphaeng Phet (446.4 square kilometers) and in Amphoe Mae Wong-Mae Poen in Nakhon Sawan (446.48 square kilometers), totaling 892.88 square kilometers. The north borders Khlong Lan National Park of Kamphaeng Phet, the south borders Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Reserve of Uthai Thani, the east borders villages in Kamphaeng Phet and Nakhon Sawan, and the west borders Um Phang Wildlife Reserve in Tak. The area was proclaimed a national park on 14 September 1987 and was the 55th national park of Thailand. The park headquarters are at No. 65, Khlong Lan-Um Phang Road, Amphoe Pang Sila Thong, Kamphaeng Phet.

Attractions in Mae Wong National Park :

Kaeng Pha Khoi Nang-Kaeng Nam Bon Kaeo Hin is on the Khlong Lan-Um Phang road and 1.4 kilometers from the park headquarters and another 400 meters on a secondary road. This is a large brook that Khlung Canal flows through. From here, you can walk around 350 meters to Pha Khoi Nang Waterfall that has 4 levels.

Viewpoint is on the Khlong Lan-Um Phang road at Km. 81, around 16 kilometers from the park headquarters. At Km. 93 about 28 kilometers from the headquarters is the area between mountains that is perpetually breezy with an average temperature below 20 degrees Celsius. It is 1.34 kilometers above sea level.

Mae Wong National Park Nang Nuan Waterfall can be reached by getting to Km. 93 and going on foot for about 6.4 kilometers. The waterfall is located amidst the lush jungle. It has 4 levels. It takes about 1 day to make a return trip to the waterfall.

Mae Krasa Waterfall is a large 9-level waterfall about 900 meters high. The waterfall is formed by streams from high-altitude jungles on the Thanon Thong Chai Mountain Range. It is about 18 kilometers from the park headquarters. The trip on foot takes 3-4 days.

Mae Riwa Waterfall is around 21 kilometers from the headquarters. It is a large waterfall that has 5 levels and takes about 3 days for a return trip on foot.

Mokochu Peak is the highest peak in the park. It is 1.964 kilometers above sea level and is 50 kilometers from the headquarters. The return trip on foot takes 5-7 days.

Kaeng Lan Nok Yung is a brook with a wide rock plateau. Mae Wong River, which originates in Mae Wong Forest flows through it. It is about 800 meters from Mae Rewa Forest Protection Unit. The area is suitable for training programs and group camping. The distance from the unit to the brook is about 1.5 kilometers and it is accessible by car.

Getting There : There are 2 main routes:

1. Bangkok-Nakhon Sawan-Lat Yao-Khlong Lan route into the park on Highway No. 1117 (Khlong Lan-Um Phang) at Km. 65.

2. Bangkok-Nakhon Sawan-Khong Wilai-Khlong Lan route into the park on Highway No. 1117 (Khlong Lan-Um Phang). The total distance from Bangkok to the park is about 386 kilometers.

Thailand National Park Chiang Mai :Mae Takhrai National Park

Mae Takhrai National Park Mae Takrai National Park covers the areas of Sankampaeng District and Doi Saked District of Chiang Mai Province within an approximate area of 1,114 square kilometers or 696,250 rai. The National Park is the source of Ping River, consisting of high mountains and having major valuable plants and wild animals. Prominent natural tourist attractions of the National Park include waterfalls, cliffs, artesian spring, reservoirs, etc.

Geographical Features

The geographical features of the National Park consist of high mountains, at the altitude of 400-2,031 meters above the medium sea level. The National Park has Class 1 rain forests and limestone mountains situated in the area of Ping Basin. Within the areas of the National Park, mixed forests can generally be seen, meanwhile, virgin forests grow thickly along the riversides and the rain forests.

Weather Condition

The weather at the National Park can be divided into 3 seasons including rainy season (May-October), winter (November-February), and summer (March-April).

Thailand National Park Chiang Mai : Huai Nam Dang National Park

Huai Nam Dang National Park The park occupies an area of 180 square kilometers in Mae Taeng Sub-district, Chiang Mai and Pai Sub-district, Mae Hong Son Province. The mountain, which is mostly ranged highlands, has verdant forests that are the sources of tributaries and various streams. Notable attractions in the park include Huai Nam Dang Viewpoint and Doi Kiu Lom, which overlooks Doi Chiang Dao. To get there, drive along Mae Malai-Pai Road to between Km. 65-66, and then take a 6-kilometer access road to the park office.

Another attraction, Doi Chang Viewpoint, is located 20 kilometers beyond the Huai Nam Dang Viewpoint and is only accessible by four-wheel drive vehicle. The scenic views of natural mountain ranges and early morning sea of clouds can be seen from this view point. Camping is possible provided that visitors bring their own tents and food. Nearby attractions in Mae Hong Son Province worth visiting include Tha Pai hot spring (Pong Nam Ron Tha Pai) and Mae Yen waterfall.

Thailand National Park Chiang Mai : Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park

Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park, located in Amphur Mae Eye, Amphur Fang, Amphur Chai Prakarn of Chiang Mai Province, consists of complicated geography which is a part of a watershed called Dan Lao Mountain Range. It is the productive forest which not only has a great number of plants and animals but also beautiful natures, for examples, Huai Bond Cave, Hot-mineral Water Pond, Hot Spring and Mae Jai Stream. It is an importantly traveling place of Chiangmai Province. Traveler can take convenient ways to get there. It is 524 square kilometers, and has been declared a national park since September 4, 2000.

Doi Wiang PhaDoi Wiang Pha is to be announced as a national park covering the areas of Mae Fang National Conserved Forest in Tambol Sridongyen, Tambol Maetalob, Chaiprakarn District, Tambol Mae Kha, Tambol Mae Kha, Fang District, Chiang Mai Province, and the left side of Mae Lao National Conserved Forest in Tambol Pa Daed, Tambol Srithoi, Tambol Thakor of Chiang Rai Province within an approximate area of 583 square kilometers or 364,375 rai.

Thailand National Park Chiang Mai : Doi Inthanon National Park

Doi Inthanon National Park This national park which covers an area of 1,005 square kilometers is located on Doi Inthanon, Thailand's highest mountain which is 2,565 meters above sea level. Located between Mae Chaem and Chom Thong, the park is comprised of the largest tract of upper mountain forest which ranges across Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, and ends in Northern Thailand. The mountain ranges gave birth to the main tributaries of the Ping river and formed the beautiful waterfalls, namely Siriphum, Wachirathan, Mae Pan, Mae Klang and Mae Ya. The moist and dense evergreen forest is abundant with lichens and wild orchids. The park is also a paradise for bird lovers.
Visiting Doi Inthanon is possible throughout the year however, the best period for viewing the waterfalls is May through November while the best period for viewing wild flowers is December through February and for ornithologists is November through March.

Getting there: Travel 58 kilometres west of Chiang Mai via Highway No. 108 to Chom Thong, then turn right into Highway No. 1009 and continue a further distance of 48 kilometres along Highway No. 1009 to the summit. A good asphalt road takes visitors up but is rather steep, thus the vehicle must be in a good condition. Visitors could pay for the entrance fee at Km. 8.
Doi Inthanon can be reached by a local truck (Song Thaeo) from Phra That Chom Thong or Mae Klang Waterfall. The Song Thaeo runs to Doi Inthanon National Park Office (Km. 31) and neighbouring villages. A chartered Song Thaeo costing around 800 baht can make stops at other attractions around the area.

Doi Suthep - Pui National Park is in the area of Amphoe Mae Rim, Amphoe Hang Dong and Amphoe Muang, covering 262.5 square kilometers. Doi Suthep - Pui National Park is noted for its dense forests and watershed areas and is blessed with the most beautiful environment housing important places of historical and religious interest.

The park is only 5 kilometers from Chiang Mai and accessible from the Huai Kaeo - Chiang Mai University - Chiang Mai zoo road which goes to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Voraviharn. From there you can walk upwards for a short while and then turn right toward the office of Doi Suthep National Park.
